Sophie Oldakowski of Southampton died at home surrounded by her family on December 6. She was 76.
Born on April 5, 1948, in Southampton, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Sophie Oldakowski.
She graduated from Southampton High School and received her accounting degree at Long Island University.
She remained a lifetime resident of Southampton.
Many will remember her warm smile from the old A&P, where she worked for many years.
She was a devout Catholic. God and family were the focus and joy of her life. She was an active member of the Basilica Parish of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
Affectionately known as “Cookie,” she will be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Mary Phillips, Michael (Tracy) Phillips, David (Jen) Phillips, and Deborah Phillips; grandchildren, Christine Phillips, Andrew Phillips, and Phillip DeBoard; great-grandchildren Zoey Sulph, Hailey Sulph, Jadyn Sulph, and Jayce Sulph; a brother, Thomas Oldakowski; and two sisters, Marie Stover and Ceil Caulfield. She was predeceased by her son, Leroy Phillips; her brother, Paul Oldakowski; and her sister, Alice Jones.
Visitation will be held on December 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at O’Connell Rothwell Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on December 14 at the Basilica Parish of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
