William Pendergast, 44, of Remsenburg was arrested by Westhampton Beach Police on November 30 and charged with misdemeanor DWI. Pendergast was pulled over at 10:37 p.m. at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Mill Road in Westhampton Beach after failing to maintain his lane while traveling west on Montauk Highway, police said. He admitted he had consumed a tequila drink before driving, according to police, who said he performed poorly on a field sobriety test, and a breath test came up with a reading of .17. There’s an irony that Southampton Town officials might have the least power when it comes to the travel plaza featuring tax-free gasoline that is going up on Shinnecock Nation property in Hampton Bays — but also might be most at fault for the current situation.
