Members of the Southampton High School Mariners Patriot Club recently participated in an annual Veterans Day flag placement at Sacred Heart Cemetery. The students placed 1,200 flags throughout the cemetery with the assistance of Congressman Nick LaLota, the Polish Legion of American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary and Eastern Suffolk Ducks Unlimited. Westhampton Beach High School’s literary arts magazine, Seascapes, recently earned several awards at the Empire State School Press Association awards ceremony at the Syracuse University Lubin House in New York City. The publication was awarded Best Overall Literary Magazine, Silver for Best Overall Cover Design, and Silver for Best Written Work in a Literary Magazine, written by Kate Pomroy. Members of the U.S. Coast Guard recently visited Hampton Bays Middle School to engage fifth grade students and educate them about their role in the community. During the visit, the service members showcased their response boat and explained various responsibilities, including search and rescue operations, maritime safety and environmental protection. The interactive presentation aimed to inspire students and raise awareness about the importance of the Coast Guard's mission.
