Martha “Marty” Worth Oberrender of Lincoln, MA and Bridgehampton, NY, died peacefully the afternoon of November 10; she was 97 years of age.
Marty was born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 23, 1927 to Blanche Sorzano Worth and Courtland Jay Worth. After graduating from Needham High School, Marty graduated from Colby Junior College (Colby Sawyer College) before moving back to Boston to begin working.
While attending a wedding of a close personal friend, Marty met Girard F. Oberrender Jr. (“Gerry”). They fell in love, were engaged shortly thereafter, and on April 22, 1950 they were married; a marriage which would thrive for 62 years until Gerry’s death in 2012.
With great pride Marty and Gerry raised their children in Cleveland, OH; Syracuse, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Norwich NY; and Ithaca NY where they lived for forty years before moving to Lincoln in 2010. Wherever they lived Marty was active in her church community; she also enjoyed bringing people together to support fundraising activities for local charitable organizations. During holidays Marty welcomed people into their home who might otherwise be alone.
Nothing gave Marty more enjoyment than spending her summers in Bridgehampton, NY, the birthplace of her father and uncles, and where she would live next door to her sister and brother-in-law Blanche and Bob Siegfried for over 50 years. Whether as a young person growing up, a newlywed, a mother, grandmother or great-grandmother, Marty always looked forward to her time with her family, the extended Worth family, and friends, on the tennis courts, golf course, beach and watching her family participate in activities at the Bridgehampton Club.
Marty is survived by her three children and their spouses: Girard III and Patti Oberrender, Ann and Nicholas Noyes, Robert and Jane Oberrender, grandchildren Maggie Oberrender, Sarah Oberrender, Peter Oberrender, Courtland Noyes (Andrew Todd), Benjamin Noyes, Eliza Chory-Noyes (Maggie), William Oberrender (Brittney), Trotter Oberrender (Caitlin Majewski), Charles Oberrender (Lizzie) and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece, Martha Fritz (Rick) and a nephew, Dr. Jay Siegfried (Barbara) and many grand-nephews, grand-nieces and cousins.
The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to the loving companions who cared for Marty during the past several years.
A private family service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Marty’s honor to The Bridgehampton Museum, 2539 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, NY 11932 or The Hill School, c/o Christian Sockel, 860 Beech Street, Pottstown, PA 19464.
