Koral McMahon Gregor of Sagaponack died peacefully on November 4. She was diagnosed with cancer in January 2020 and lived life to her fullest every day since. She was 68.

Born on December 10, 1955, she was the daughter of Catherine and Frank McMahon of Bridgehampton and sister to Kyle Lach (Joey) of Hampton Bays and Dan McMahon (Kelly) of Connecticut. She attended elementary school at The Academy of the Sacred Heart and was a graduate of Bridgehampton School.

A blind date to the Hampton Bays carnival on August 4, 1973, would lead to an October wedding in 1976 for Koral and Jeffrey Gregor. Together, they raised their four children, Benjamin Gregor (Beth), Brooke English (Kevin), Courtney Gregor, and Bryan Gregor (Hayley), with unwavering love, support and dedication.

She became a grandmother for the first time in 2008, and leaves behind a total of 10 grandchildren, Jeffery, Caroline, and Henry Gregor, Emma, William, and Brynn English, Mackenzie, Lucy, James, and Tommy Gregor, who adored her. Being a grandmother was her greatest joy, her family said, and she could often be found in the stands of a sporting event, in the audience of a school recital, or waiting in a long line at a Disney World attraction. She will be deeply missed by all.

She reveled in the company of close confidants, especially her lifelong friend Joy Sieger, and the “lunch girls.”

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in her name to the LUNGevity Foundation and Memorial Sloan Kettering.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Memorial Sloan Kettering, specifically Dr. Paik and Sarah Permutt (RN-BC), for the wonderful care shown to her during her illness and final days.

Once and for All

There’s an irony that Southampton Town officials might have the least power when it comes to the travel plaza featuring tax-free gasoline that is going up on Shinnecock Nation property in Hampton Bays — but also might be most at fault for the current situation. Neighbors are incensed that the nation is building the gas station off Sunrise Highway with seemingly little oversight. The Environmental Protection Agency has stepped forward to provide a framework for the sovereign Shinnecock Nation’s project, but also has allowed the nation to proceed mostly on pledges to follow EPA rules. A Do-Over

Stop digging. That’s the best advice we can offer the Southampton History Museum. When you’re in a hole, recognize it and, if you do nothing else, don’t make it deeper. And there’s a hole, and it’s deep, and it’s time to think about climbing out of it. It was foolhardy to think evicting the Conscience Point Shellfish Hatchery from the North Sea site owned by the museum, near where English settlers first landed in 1640, wasn’t going to land with a thud. Perhaps the hatchery could be a better tenant — there is fair concern about the sometimes disheveled state ... by Editorial Board
