Cormaria Retreat Celebrates 75 Years

Cormaria Retreat Center will host a 75th anniversary celebration on Saturday, November 16. The day will begin with Mass at St. Rosalie’s Church in Hampton Bays at 11 a.m. with the Most Reverend William F. Murray, Bishop Emeritus of Rockville Center officiating. A luncheon reception at Villa Paul Restaurant in Hampton Bays will follow.

The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary established Cormaria Retreat Center on Thanksgiving Day in 1949. Located at 77 Bay Street in Sag Harbor, it is a place of hospitality, offering retreats and programs in spirituality and contemplative practices, including group, private, directed, and silent retreats. The retreat center also welcomes groups and organizations for day and overnight retreats or spiritual programs. Guests enjoy the quiet, peaceful environment, as well as the beautiful views of Peconic Bay.

Hotline Open To Save Cold-Stunned Turtles

The New York State Marine Rescue Center has issued a reminder that cold stun season is approaching and that its 24-hour stranding hotline is open for those who come upon a stunned turtle on the beach. The number to call is 631-369-9829. When water temperatures drop below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, the breathing rate and movements of sea turtles slow, making them unable to swim against currents or dive under the water surface.
