The East Hampton Library’s Long Island Collection has unveiled a new exhibit, “The Way We Cooked in East Hampton,” on view now in the library’s front lobby display cases.

Each of the four display cases features recipes from local residents focuses on a theme — Food We Wouldn’t Make Anymore (think jellied cabbage grapefruit salad); Seafood; Food for Special Occasions; and Baked Goods.

Included in the exhibit are over 100 years of LVIS cookbook recipes, recipes from Burnt Offerings (the Springs Fire Department cookbook), local churches, and several from the handwritten recipe books of Sarah Griswold Gardiner Tyler (aka Mrs. John Alexander Tyler) from circa 1910.

The new exhibit is viewable during the library’s hours, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. and will remain on display through early spring.
