More of the Same?

I write this letter to endorse Barbara Roberts, candidate for mayor of North Haven at the upcoming election on June 18. For those who know me personally, or perhaps those who only know me from having read about my service as a North Haven trustee over the past four years, I hope you recognize my high standards for always striving to make good decisions and do what is best for the Village of North Haven.

On Tuesday, when it comes time to cast my vote for mayor, I will choose Barbara. I feel it is important for North Haven to have a mayor with integrity, who will always be honest and truthful and follow all village laws, protocols and processes. This is what North Haven should expect from its mayor, and there should never be any cause for anyone to question their actions.

We should elect a mayor who will guarantee transparency in decision making, by the full Board of Trustees, not centralized with just the mayor, and seek out and truly listen to resident input. This is how good government operates. Barbara has committed to do these things.

Barbara has pledged to work hard to bring unity to the Village Board, to leverage the experience and expertise of all board members in order to seek the best solutions for the village. She is a collaborative leader with decades of experience, she can heal the divides that exist today and optimize the best from the many talented volunteers who are working hard for the village to help the village boards and staff flourish.

Barbara is forward looking. She has outlined her vision to update the village’s master plan (which has not been done in decades), which encompasses really thoughtfully planning and developing a capital plan and maintenance for the village’s two large parks (Lovelady and Stock Farm trails) and other significant capital assets, examining building and zoning codes to take concrete steps to preserve our rural character, meaningfully supporting plans to improve our water quality and putting the appropriate fiscal plans in place alongside the master plan.

Barbara possesses all of these very important characteristics that really matter in the person that we vote for to lead our cherished village for the next two years. I would urge every registered voter in North Haven to thoughtfully consider not only what has taken place over the past two years, and ask yourself if you want two more years of the same, or if you will vote for change?

I will vote for a person with integrity and I urge you also to vote for Barbara Roberts on June 18.
