Bonac Boys Volleyball Reaches Playoffs
The East Hampton boys volleyball team bounced back from its 3-1 loss at Walt Whitman on October 17 with a 3-0 home victory over Comsewogue in its regular-season finale on October 19. The Bonackers won six of their final seven matches to finish with a 7-7 record good enough for the fifth and final seed of the Suffolk County Division II playoffs. East Hampton played at No. 4 East Islip on Wednesday, results of which can be found at 27east.com. The winner of that match plays at top-seeded Eastport-South Manor on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Second-Place Finish For Bonac Swimmers
The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls swim team traveled to “The Dome” in Lindenhurst on October 18 where it defeated the hosts, 51-45. The win improved the Bonackers to 3-1 in League III which placed them second in the regular season standing. The girls will compete in the League III Championships this Friday at West Islip High School at 4:30 p.m.
Pierson Field Hockey In County Championship
The Whalers will be vying for their ninth straight county title on Monday, October 30, when they play Greenport/Southold in the Suffolk County Class C Championship at Newfield High School at 5 p.m. Pierson defeated Greenport earlier this season, 2-0, at home on September 23.
Playoff Petition Denied for Whalers Girls Volleyball
The Pierson/Bridgehampton girls volleyball team defeated host Ross, 3-0, on October 17 but then lost, 3-0, at home to Port Jefferson the next day. Pierson then petitioned to force a Suffolk County Class C Championship with Port Jeff but was denied by Section XI. The Whalers finished the season 6-10 in League VII, 6-12 overall.
Whalers, Greenport Boys Soccer To Battle for ‘C’ Title
The Pierson/Bridgehampton boys soccer team will face Greenport for the Suffolk County Class C Championship this Saturday, October 28, at noon at Diamond in the Pines in Coram. The Whalers and Porters finished with identical 8-7 League IX records. The two teams played each other three times already this season and Pierson won the last two games.
Arnold’s Tally Is Difference For Mariner Field Hockey
Mia Arnold scored in the third quarter and it held up as the game-winner in Southampton’s 1-0 victory over Babylon in the season finale on October 18. Carlie Kreymborg had the assist on the goal.
Fourth-Place Finish by Westhampton Beach Boys Volleyball
The Hurricanes bounced back from its loss to West Islip with consecutive 3-0 victories at Center Moriches on October 17 and home against Smithtown West on October 19. Westhampton Beach had one of its best regular-seasons in program history finishing with a 12-2 record, good enough for fourth place in all of Suffolk County. The ’Canes host Bayport-Blue Point in the Suffolk County Division II semifinals this Saturday, October 28, at 11 a.m.
Hurricane Football Defeats Kings Park
Following its narrow loss at Sayville, the Westhampton Beach football team bounced back in a big way with a 41-15 victory at Kings Park on Friday night. Nolan Michalowski rushed for 224 yards and a touchdown and added a receiving touchdown while Will Gambino completed nine of 13 passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Riley Miller, Andrew Mensch and Aidan McDermott each had five tackles and McDermott added a sack and a blocked punt. Westhampton Beach hosts Half Hollow Hills West this Friday night at 6 p.m. It’ll be Senior Night for the ’Canes and the outcome of the game could determine who gets the second and three seeds in the upcoming Division III playoffs.
Westhampton Beach Girls Volleyball Wins Season Finale
The Hurricanes defeated Amityville in three sets, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19, to take their regular-season and home finale. The ’Canes won three of their final four matches of the season to finish with a 4-8 League V record, 5-8 overall.
